List of Multicultural Organizations

With over 30 multicultural groups across campus, there are various ways to experience a culture, participate in events, join a group, or collaborate with an organization. Please take a look at some of our multicultural organizations below and get involved. Click on the student organization heading to gain access to their various webpages and facebook accounts.

African Students Association

The African Students Association (ASA) of the Johns Hopkins University comprises a group of students of African and non-African decent dedicated to the education of the Hopkins community at large of the different cultures that comprise the African continent. ASA also provides a network of support for African students at Johns Hopkins. The African Students Association is a service as well as social organization which aims to rid misconceptions concerning Africa through education.

Black Student Union

The Johns Hopkins Black Student Union (BSU) was founded in April of 1968, shortly after the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. and the riots which followed in Baltimore City. The club sponsors social events and lectures, participates in community service activities such as tutoring disadvantaged children, works to promote unity among African Americans, and works to improve the overall climate for African American students at Hopkins.

Brazilian Students Association (JHU BRSA)

JHU BRSA is an organization positioned to bring awareness to the Brazilian culture to the JHU community through various events, further increasing the multicultural spirit, promote and foster a better understanding of the Brazilian culture, its people, diversity, and values to preserve and strengthen relationships with any and all individuals and organizations interested in Brazil and its culture. Canadians at Johns Hopkins (Canadians at JHU)

The Canadians at Johns Hopkins provide a sense of community to incoming and current Canadian students, as well as raise awareness and understanding about Canada in the greater Hopkins community! For more information, e-mail us at canada.jhu@gmail.com.

Caribbean Cultural Society

The mission of the Caribbean Cultural Society is to provide a social group for interaction between Johns Hopkins University students, faculty and staff with Caribbean backgrounds or interests. We strive to provide a support group for entering Caribbean students in order to ease the transition into the Johns Hopkins life, and serve as a source of information for any member of the Johns Hopkins University community interested in learning about the Caribbean.

Ciao! The Johns Hopkins Italian Club

The goals of “Ciao! The Johns Hopkins Italian Club” is to raise awareness of Italian culture among the JHU community, encourage practice and appreciation of language among experienced and beginners alike, and always enjoy Italian food!

Chinese Students Association (CSA)

The Johns Hopkins Chinese Students Association (CSA) promotes the awareness and understanding of the Chinese culture and fosters a supporting social and cultural environment for its members. Delta Xi Phi Multicultural Sorority, Inc.

Delta Xi Phi is a national sorority that has had a chapter at Johns Hopkins since 2006. As an organization, we are dedicated to sisterhood, friendship, advancement of women through higher education, multiculturalism, and community service.

Filipino Students Association

The Johns Hopkins University Filipino Students Association strives to celebrate and promote awareness of the culture, language, and history of the Philippines through cultural nights, potlucks, documentary screenings, folk dance performances, and others.

French Club

The French Club aims to promote awareness on French language and culture. We will have a variety of events held throughout the year relating to French Culture. We welcome anybody who is interested in participating.

Gospel Choir

The Johns Hopkins University Gospel Choir spreads the gospel of Jesus Christ to the Hopkins campus and Baltimore community through song and worship. We aim to provide a setting where people of all backgrounds, races, and religions can grow in the love and knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Hopkins Advocates for Disability Awareness

Our mission is to provide an approachable, cohesive and inclusive group that supports students with disabilities by reducing stigma, providing education and awareness, and promoting a more positive image of disability on the Johns Hopkins campus.

Hong Kong Students Association

The Hong Kong Students Association (HKSA) at Johns Hopkins was established in 1994 by a group of students from Hong Kong. Since its beginning, HKSA has created a warm and welcoming community for Hong Kong students and the Hopkins community.

Hopkins Bengali Organization (HBO)

Hopkins Bengali Organization (HBO) aims to preserve, promite and celebrate Bengali culture (both Indian and Bangaldeshi) at Johns Hopkins. We do so through many events such as Rice Festival and Boishakhi Bang, and most (if not all) of our events.

Hopkins Ethiopian and Eritrean Society (HEES)

The group seeks to bridge the gap between the strong Ethiopian and Eritrean community in the surrounding areas and the JHU community as a whole. HEES will also provide a social foundation for and aid in establishing such a community on the Hopkins campus. HEES will function both as a source for information and a safe haven for social interaction.

Hopkins Hawai’i Ohana (Hawai’i Ohana)

The Hopkins Hawai’i Ohana is dedicated to providing a family for Hopkins students from Hawai’i or interested in Hawai’i and to spread aloha to our Hopkins community through programs and events that expose students to the lingo, traditions, food, and music of the 50th state. Inter-Asian Council

Founded in 1994 by the Office of the Dean of Student Life, the Inter-Asian Council at Johns Hopkins University has sought to foster unity among the Asian and Asian American communities at Homewood and to empower students to discuss issues of identity, politics, and race.

Iranian Cultural Society

The Iranian Cultural Society (ICS) is a non-religious and non-political organization at Johns Hopkins University. The purpose of the ICS is to provide current and prospective members with the opportunity to meet others with similar interests and backgrounds, while promoting Persian culture and values.

Japanese Students International

The aim of the Japanese Student International is to provide fun activities and informational sessions for students who have an interest in the Japanese culture and language.

Johns Hopkins Muslim Association

The Johns Hopkins University Muslim Association is an active religious group on campus dedicated to creating a welcoming and nurturing environment for Muslims and non-Muslims alike. The group seeks to raise awareness of the religion of Islam as well as engage and interact with the Hopkins and Baltimore community in a positive and beneficial manner.

Korean Students Association (KSA)

JHU KSA is an association of Korean-American and Korean International Students at the Johns Hopkins University. We host social, cultural, and academic events,JHU KSA hosts social, cultural, and academic events, which are open to everyone who attends JHU.

Lambda Epsilon Mu

Lambda Epsilon Mu (LEM) is being established to empower and inspire Latino pre-health students to address and solve the health care disparities affecting the under-privileged Latino population.

Organización Latina Estudiantil (OLÉ)

OLÉ serves to catalyze the Latinos at Johns Hopkins into a proactive, empowered community. We strive to create a positive, inclusive environment that celebrates and promotes the history, culture, intellectual contributions, growth, education, and empowerment of all Latinos.

Singapore Students Association

The Singapore Students Association creates a home away from home. Being 10,000 miles away from the tropical land filled with gastronomic delights of many different cultures, we seek great joy and delight in the company of people who enjoy this wonderful culture. South Asian Students at Hopkins (SASH)

SASH is a group dedicated to promoting South Asian cultural awareness in the Hopkins and Baltimore communities while providing a place where students of South Asian heritage can celebrate their culture.

Sigma Omicron Pi

The sisterhood of Sigma Omicron Pi was established at San Francisco State University in 1930 by ten Asian American Women pursuing the interest of teaching. They chose the Greek letters, Σ, Ο and Π to represent themselves as the “Sisters of Pedagogy.”

Taiwanese American Students Association

TASA, the Taiwanese American Students Association at Johns Hopkins University is dedicated to promoting Taiwanese Cultural awareness on the Homewood Campus and beyond. Through social, cultural, and educational events, TASA officers and members work together to establish a better sense of community and Taiwanese identity.

Thai Students Association at JHU (ThSA)

The Thai Students Association at Johns Hopkins University is a student organization dedicated to promote an understanding and awareness of Thai culture, society, customs, and language in the college community, and to collaborate with other Thai student groups.

Turkish Student Association

JHU Turkish Student Association welcomes everyone interested in Turkish culture. The mission of the society is to promote Turkey, Turkish culture and foster communication and unity among the Turkish people and the people who are interested in the culture itself.

Vietnamese Students Association

The Vietnamese Student Association aims to preserve and promote Vietnamese culture at Johns Hopkins University and the surrounding community by providing programs and support for students to establish a common ground for cultural awareness.
