Tom Boram

Multimedia Specialist

Tom is a Multimedia Specialist focused on audio and makerspace technology at the DMC. He is a multi-media artist, sound designer and musician born and raised in Baltimore City. He has been a central figure in Baltimore’s underground music community for over 20 years. He is a multi-instrumentalist with a lifelong background in classical, rock, and jazz. He has also studied Hindustani classical music in Varanasi, India. Beginning in the late 1990s he began exploring DIY electronics and experimental synthesizer performance and design. He is also a founder of Baltimore’s High Zero Festival of Experimental and Improvised Music, a rare and unique annual event nearing its 20th anniversary.

Through music, Tom branched out into various disciplines and has worked towards synthesizing his diverse interests across creative disciplines. He has worked in film and video for over 15 years. He has been a writer, actor, director and composer for numerous experimental and narrative films. His recent work involves multi-media interactive works that that straddle the boundaries between genre television, absurdist humor, and visual and sound abstraction.

He is obsessed with both new and old technologies. He is happiest when exploring ways of communicating across technologies – finding ways to combine media into new forms. He is also an avid cook and gardener.
