HSO Concerto Competition Winners Announced
Hopkins Symphony Orchestra is pleased to announce the winners of the bi-annual Hopkins Symphony Orchestra concerto competition. Selected by a panel of judges, the winners are Morgan Wu, rising sophomore, performing movement 1 of Paganini’s Violin Concerto and Colin McGregor, rising junior, performing Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto. Wu and McGregor will perform on the HSO season finale concert, which concludes with Tchaikovsky’s 5th Symphony, on Sunday, April 29 at 3pm in the Bunting-Meyerhoff Interfaith Center.
Gabriela Nisly (flute), rising senior, and Isabel Won (cello), rising sophomore, were honored as runners-up and will perform with Hopkins Concert Orchestra during the 2018-19 season.
The HSO Concerto Competition provides the opportunity for JHU students to further their musical studies, gain experience in preparing and auditioning for professional musicians, and receive public recognition for their work. The competition is open to all JHU students not majoring in music. Founded by HSO orchestra member Hernan del Aguila (JHU ’08), with support from a JHU Arts Innovation Grant, the competition is now a bi-annual event.
