Parents and Families
The Life Design Lab’s collaborative model encourages students to explore internships and opportunities, gain competencies in networking and job searching skills, and develop deep industry knowledge. We welcome parents and families to play an active role.
We offer dynamic programs and events designed to link students with employers and alumni, including on-campus career fairs, internship postings, off-campus recruiting events, and alumni networking receptions. Our students follow their passions into every imaginable career field and achieve success with a variety of employers and graduate schools.
How Your Student can Connect
Whether your student is preparing for their first internship or you want to learn more about how to support your student in reaching their career development goals, the Career Center can help. The videos below help families understand what the Life Design Lab offers, and how parents can get involved.
Hire Hopkins Students
When establishing relationships with organizations, it is important to have alumni, parents and other key partners who advocate for Hopkins students. We encourage parents to recruit Hopkins students through the Parents Internship Network (PIN). If you have questions or want to post an internship, please
- Get started with PIN by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. You can create a dedicated internship position for a talented Hopkins student, or just let us know that you’re interested in finding out more.
- Post existing internship and full-time opportunities at your organization through Handshake or email the Life Design Lab.
- Provide the Recruiting Team with contact information for the human resources representative at your organization.
Connect with Students
Encourage your son or daughter to utilize our services throughout their four years at Hopkins. First-year students will be assigned a Life Design Educator based on their school and major interest. From first year on, they will have access to Life Design Educators that work with their major or department specifically. Ask if they have connected with the Life Design Lab this year—either through Handshake or an office-sponsored event. This is especially important for seniors as they approach their first career destination after Hopkins.
Blue Jay Families Newsletters and Webinars
The Life Design Lab hosts webinars in conjunction with Blue Jay Families throughout the year, to help parents get a handle on the best way to support their students, and access resources and events. Make sure to check your Blue Jay Families newsletter for monthly updates, and join us on a webinar late this fall.
