Below you will find information regarding Move-In for new students at Johns Hopkins University. New Student Move-In 2017
Move-In will occur on Friday, August 25 and Saturday, August 26. The date that students are able to move into their residence hall is dependent on their housing assignment, which they will receive in late July.
Friday, August 25
8 a.m.–2 p.m.
- AMR II (Adams, Baker, Clark, Gildersleeve, Griffin, Hollander, Jennings and Lazear)
- AMR III Building A
- McCoy Hall
- Wolman Hall (floors 2, 3, 7)
Saturday, August 26
8 a.m.–2 p.m.
- AMR I (Royce, Sylvester, Vincent, Willard, Wilson and Wood)
- AMR III Building B
- Wolman Hall (floors 4 through 6)
For security reasons, you should not plan on arriving before these dates, nor can any personal belongings be placed in student rooms until you can actually take possession of the room.
For students moving into the AMRs I, II, and III, plug this address into your GPS or smart phone: 4 West University Parkway, Baltimore, MD 21218. This is the address of the Doubletree Inn at the Colonnade. The entrance to campus you will use for move-in is right across the street.
For students moving into Wolman Hall or McCoy Hall, plug this address into your GPS or smart phone: 3506 Greenway, Baltimore, MD 21218. This is the address of JHU’s Rogers House, and will direct you to the start of the line for Wolman and McCoy move-in.
From the North on I-95 (Wilmington, Philadelphia, New Jersey, New York, etc.):
Take I-95 South heading towards Baltimore. Take Maryland Exit 64B (I-695 West/Baltimore Beltway towards Towson). Continue around I-695 West/Baltimore Beltway and take exit 25 (MD 139 South/Charles Street). Continue down Charles Street towards the Homewood campus. Follow the GPS directions above to your specific residence hall.
From the South on I-95 (Washington, D.C., BWI Airport, etc.):
Take I-95 North to exit 53 (I-395 Downtown). Once you are on this ramp, stay in the left lane. You will see M&T Bank Stadium and Oriole Park at Camden Yards on your left. Continue straight and you will start to hit traffic lights. Go to the second light (at Pratt St) and turn right. Stay in the middle lane. Continue straight and make turn left onto President St. (in front of you is the OLD BAY GARAGE sign). Continue on President St. (this automatically turns into I-83 North). Continue on I-83 North and follow the GPS directions above to your specific residence hall.
From the North on I-83 (Pennsylvania, etc.):
Follow I-83 South and take the right-hand split to the Baltimore Beltway (I-695 West). Stay in the right lane and take exit 23B (I-83 South/Baltimore). Continue on I-83 South and follow the GPS directions above to your specific residence hall.
From the East on Route 50 or I-97 (Annapolis, Eastern Shore, Southern Delaware):
Take route 50 East to exit 21 (I-97/Baltimore). Continue on I-97 and take exit 17A (I-695 Baltimore/Towson). Stay in the right lane and take exit 7B (295 North/Baltimore-Wash Exp). Continue on 295 North into Baltimore. You will pass M&T bank Stadium and Oriole Park at Camden Yards on your right. Once past Oriole Park, stay in the right lane and make a right onto Pratt St. Stay in the middle lane, pass 13 traffic lights to President St. (you will see the OLD BAY GARAGE sign), and take the left onto President St. Continue on President St., which will turn into I-83 North. Continue on I-83 North and follow the GPS directions above to your specific residence hall.
From the West on I-70 (Pittsburgh, Chicago, etc.):
Take I-70 toward Baltimore; take exit 91A (I-695/Glen Burnie). Continue on I-695 to exit 11A (I-95 North Baltimore). Take I-95 North to exit 53 (I-395 Downtown). Follow the directions above for “From the South on I-95.”
If you are planning to drive to Baltimore, please only bring vehicles with normal cargo-carrying capabilities. Rented vehicles meant to accommodate large cargo loads (e.g. U-Hauls) will not fit on our move-in path.
Vehicles will be directed by university staff to designated parking garages after unloading at the residence halls.
The closest airport to campus is Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI). Johns Hopkins University does not provide transportation from BWI to campus, however, you can arrange transportation to and from the airport using Super Shuttle. Students may use the discount code “JOHNS” when booking online to receive a 10% discount.
Please note: Shuttles and taxis should not get in line with the rest of the new students moving in. The delay could cause additional charges to be incurred. Students arriving on their assigned move-in day by shuttle or taxi should not enter campus but should pull up to campus and park on University Parkway just beyond the entrance to campus next to Homewood Field. Move-In volunteers will arrive shortly thereafter to help bring students’ items to their residence hall rooms. Use the GPS addresses listed above to give to taxi and shuttle drivers.
Upon arrival, students will be able to stay in their residence halls. A list of local hotels is provided below for parents and families looking for accommodations during move-in and parent/family orientation.

Tips for a “Greener” Move-In
Every year, countless high school graduates carpe diem on XL twin bed sets, shower caddies, and the perfect posters for their walls. But as a smart, savvy, and sustainable Johns Hopkins student, we’re sure that you’re considering how to minimize your move-in impact. Here are some tips to make your move-in process a little “greener”!
- Touch base before you buy: Contact your roommate(s) to discuss who should bring what to avoid duplicates and share the shopping for necessities.
- Be thrifty: Look for used items from local second-hand stores when you get here. When purchasing items new, choose products made of recycled and/or renewable materials. From school supplies to cleaning products, alternative options abound.
- Sharing economy student style: Rent or borrow items that you only need for the year. This will make it easier on you come move-out, and earn you green-karma when you pay the product forward for the next person to use.
- Conscious packing: Use clothing and other soft items to wrap more fragile items. This saves space and waste!
- Save your energy: Opt for Energy Star products, and pack a smart strip to make powering down when you’re not using quick and easy.
- It’s [not] so hard to say goodbye: When all is said and done, be sure to recycle the move-in mess, like cardboard boxes and plastic packaging.

Not driving to Baltimore? Need to send some stuff ahead of time? Incoming students may begin shipping packages to their residence hall addresses (found in students’ residence hall assignment notification letter received in late July) in mid-August (2017 exact date TBD). Please arrange for anything sent to arrive after this date. Once students have checked in on their assigned move-in date, they may claim their packages from the mailroom by presenting a J-Card. Packages should be sent to the mailing address of the incoming student listed in their room assignment notification. The mailroom for Wolman, McCoy, and Hopkins Inn is in the lower level of Wolman; the mailroom for the AMRs is in AMR II.
