Pre-Orientation 2023

REGISTRATION FOR PRE-ORIENTATION 2023 WILL OPEN IN MAY!

Prior to participating in required New Student Orientation programming, incoming first-year students can sign up for an optional Pre-Orientation program. Pre-Orientation programs allow new students to connect with a small group of their peers around a shared area of interest.

Details on the August 2023 Pre-Orientation Programs can be found below. We hope you consider registering for a August 2023 Pre-O Program. Registration opens on May 14, 2023 at 12:00 PM EST! Registration is required for all programs except for Clark Scholars and MAPP, which have a different process.

Transfer students may be considered for participation in our Pre-Orientation programs in June 2023 if spaces are still available.

Capacity for each program is limited, so registration is first come, first serve and will function in two phases. Phase 1 of registration will consist of registering for a spot in your desired Pre-Orientation Program. The system will activate a waitlist once program capacities have been reached. All Phase 1 registration requests will be reviewed for any changes, conflicts, or other issues.

Phase 2 of the registration process will consist of confirming students on a pre-orientation roster on or around June 25, 2023. Those confirmed for a spot in a pre-orientation program will then be prompted to accept and pay for a spot in the program (if applicable).

Questions may be directed to the Office of Orientation and First-Year Experience via e-mail at firstyear@jhu.edu or by text at 410-376-5710.

MAPP has historically served underrepresented students such as the following: first generation (if you are the first one in your family to attend college in the United States), limited/modest income, students with disabilities, LGBTQ+, and international students; however all students are encouraged to apply. Students will build awareness on their identities and how it may impact their personal and academic Hopkins experience. Students will then learn more about campus resources and soft skills to smoothen their transition to Hopkins. Students will be paired with a mentor and a family (group of 4 mentors and their mentees) to explore campus and the Baltimore city. Planned activities include Mentor, Mentee, and Family Reveal; Identity and Privilege; Imposter Syndrome; Life Design Lab – Planning 3 versions of your life; Professor Meet and Greet; an Outdoor Excursion; and more.

If you are able to commit to, are interested in mentorship for your first year, and can attend pre-orientation on the dates above, please complete the application on Hopkins Groups. If you are interested in the yearlong mentorship and will not be able to attend pre-orientation, please email Stephanie Mathew at smathe36@jh.edu.

Once you complete the MAPP application, it will be reviewed. Submission of an application does not guarantee admission to MAPP or a spot in the MAPP Pre-Orientation. Due to capacity, space is limited. You will receive notification of your admission to the program and more details about the Pre-Orientation by June 1st.
