Frequently Asked Questions
It depends who you are. If you are a regular volunteer, it’s from 10:15 a.m.- 5:30 p.m. If you are a team leader, it’s from 10:00 a.m.- 5:30 p.m. If you are a community partner, it’s from 12 p.m.- 3:00 p.m.
Volunteers and team leaders will meet in the gym at the Ralph S. O’Connor Recreation Center.
Registering for and attending PDOS constitutes a commitment that you are available from 10:15 a.m.- 5:30 p.m. on the day of the event. Thus, once you are on site, we cannot arrange separate individual transportation for you to come back to campus. However, if you are unavailable the entire day but would still like to serve and can help set-up for the event or break-down, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Transportation (vans and buses) will be provided if sites are not within walking distance. Walking sites are sites less than 3/4 mile away from campus. This is roughly the distance from the Ralph O’Connor Recreation Center to the Waverly Farmers Market (33rd and Barclay St.). All service sites are in Baltimore City.
Volunteer Specific Questions
Some participants have special needs that must be accommodated for their safety. Groups are matched according to the number of volunteers they have registered, group’s preference, and group’s special skill set. Individual volunteers will be matched to their preference.

We send out volunteer site assignments about a week before the day of service. Unfortunately, we need as much time as possible to solidify the volunteer projects and allow for as many people as possible to register. Thanks for being patient with us!
We are trying to accommodate several hundred volunteers as best as we can. Unfortunately, we cannot reassign you. If there is a site that you would really want to volunteer at badly, just do it! It doesn’t need to be the President’s Day for you to do service!
Please wait to register until your student group is on the list. If your group is not on the list, please help us by bugging your student group leaders. Thanks a bunch!
No, as a group, the group leader gives us a site preference. Once the group is matched, anyone who is affiliated with that group is assigned to that site, regardless of individual preference.
What if I am not affiliated with a group that is already listed on the registration form, but would like to volunteer with a group of friends?
We encourage you to find a participating group and join them. This will ensure that you are assigned with others who are affiliated with that group. However, if this is not possible, feel free to make up a group name for your group of friends or coworkers, fill out the group registration form, and have your friends sign up under that group name. You do not need to pledge 10 members or a member of your group to sign up as a team leader. However, you will not be eligible for group status. For more information please email email@example.com.
Service Site Specific Questions
Yes, transportation will be provided.
You may request on your application as many volunteers as are needed for your project. We will do our best to accommodate you.
You may ask for the supplies that you need for your project on your application. We rent tools from the Baltimore Community Toolbank and they must be returned.
Please contact the President’s Day of Service staff at firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as possible if you know you need to cancel. If you have been corresponding with a particular staff member you may let that person know directly.
