Alternative Breaks Conditions of Participation

Participants must agree to the Conditions of Participation as outlined below.

THE JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY
CENTER FOR SOCIAL CONCERN
Alternative Breaks Conditions of Participation

Students participating in the Alternative Break program organized by the Johns Hopkins University Center for Social Concern are expected to adhere to all Johns Hopkins University Policies and Procedures as stipulated in the Student Conduct Code (https://studentaffairs.jhu.edu/policies/student-code/) and other relevant undergraduate student policies and the terms set forth in this Conditions of Participation.

I acknowledge and agree to adhere to the following Johns Hopkins Center for Social Concern Alternative Breaks Conditions of Participation:

  • I understand that I am responsible for my own actions, activities, and behavior while participating in a Johns Hopkins Center for Social Concern Program.
  • I understand that participants who are alleged to have violated the Student Conduct Code will be reported to the Associate Dean of Student Conduct in the Dean of Student Life Office for resolution. The Director of the Center for Social Concern may immediately dismiss the student from the program pending the resolution of a student conduct matter.
  • I understand that I am obligated to comply with local, state, and federal laws. In particular, I understand that the program is a drug and alcohol free program, even if I am of age and it is acceptable by law. Other conduct that is considered unacceptable to Johns Hopkins University includes, but is not limited to, loud and/or abusive behavior; all forms of sexual misconduct as outlined in the Johns Hopkins University Sexual Misconduct Policy (http://sexualassault.jhu.edu/policies-laws/); and criminal conduct of any kind, including the purchase, sale, possession or use of drugs other than prescribed medication for legal medicinal purposes. I agree that failure to comply with these expectations may lead to my immediate dismissal from the program and referral to the appropriate university office to address the allegations accordingly.
  • I agree to participate in all Program activities from beginning to end as defined by the Program leaders. I agree to be an active and positive participant in Program activities—this includes, but is not limited to: community explorations, service, meal preparation and clean up, and reflection activities.
  • I agree to remain with my group at all times.
  • I agree to participate with respect and consideration for my new community, fellow program participants, and program leaders. I will represent myself, my university, and this program with great care and integrity.
  • I will live together at an off-campus retreat center for the duration of the Alternative Breaks trip (Sunday, March 18, 2018 through Saturday, March 24, 2018).
  • I understand that if I am dismissed from the program for cause I will receive no refund. I also acknowledge that I am responsible for any costs incurred by early dismissal.
  • I agree to abide by the schedule of payment as outlined in the program information provided by the Center for Social Concern.
  • I understand that if, after accepting placement by signing below, I voluntarily withdraw from the program, I am responsible for a non-refundable deposit and 100% of non-recoverable program costs as determined by Johns Hopkins University at the time of my withdrawal. I understand that I may be responsible for the full cost of the program.
  • I acknowledge that Johns Hopkins University reserves the right to cancel or suspend a program for any reason without prior notification. In the event of cancellation or suspension of a program, Johns Hopkins agrees to make every effort to provide participants with information in a timely manner.

BY SIGNING THIS APPLICATION, I UNDERSTAND THAT FAILURE TO ABIDE BY THESE TERMS IN ANY WAY WILL RESULT IN REMOVAL FROM THE ALTERNATIVE BREAKS PROGRAM.
