Health and Vision/Dental Insurance

Johns Hopkins University requires all full-time students in the Schools of Arts & Sciences and Engineering maintain adequate health insurance coverage to provide protection against unexpected accidents and illnesses. Enrollment is automatic in the university’s student health benefits plan each academic year and the premium charge will be added to your student account bill each semester.

Student Health Benefit Plan coverage information and ID card can be found through SIS Self-Service under the “Personal Info” menu.

International Students with an F1/J1 visa status are required to purchase the University’s Health Benefits plan, and are not eligible to waive out of the plan.

Domestic students with existing comparable health insurance who do not wish to be enrolled in the Student Health Benefit Plan may be eligible to waive the coverage and premium charge. Waiver requests may be submitted through SIS Self-Service during open enrollment only.

For more information about health insurance and voluntary vision and/or dental insurance, visit the Primary Care website.

Penalties and Fees

Graduation Fee (AAP and EP Only)

The graduation fee is $100 and is payable upon notice from Student Accounts.

Late Registration (AAP Only)

The late registration period is defined as seven days prior to the start of the semester. Registration after the start of classes is possible until the day of the second class meeting. A late registration fee is assessed during the late registration period, but does not apply for new students who were accepted for that term. Late registration will be handled between 9 a.m.–7 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Students can call 202-452-1940 so that a Part-Time Graduate Programs representative can either help them over the phone or meet them at the appropriate site for assistance.

Late Registration (ASEN Undergraduate and Graduate Students)

Late registration fees may be assessed for a time period during registration for full-time students. More detailed information regarding late registration fees can be found on the Office of the Registrar’s website.

Late Payment Penalty Fee (EP Only)

Students who do not pay their bill by the term’s due date will be assessed a $150 late payment fee.
