Concert Orchestra: Handel, Bartók, and Haydn @ Bunting-Mereyhoff Interfaith Center

Concert Orchestra: Handel, Bartók, and Haydn @ Bunting-Mereyhoff Interfaith Center

The Concert Orchestra opens its 2017-18 season, with a free concert featuring the following:

  • George Frideric Handel: Concerto Grosso, Op. 3, No. 1
  • Béla Bartók: Romanian Folk Dances
  • Joseph Haydn: Symphony No. 101, “The Clock”

Blair Skinner conducts. All Concert Orchestra performances feature small chamber music ensembles. Performances are held in the Bunting-Meyerhoff Interfaith Center and feature free admission. Small chamber ensembles are featured at the beginning of the program.

  • Jean Sibelius: Violin Concerto featuring BSO Concertmaster Jonathan Carney
  • Georges Bizet: Symphony in C

  • Robert Fuchs: Serenade No. 3, Op. 21

  • Maurice Duruflé: Requiem featuring vocal soloists Monica Reinagel and Jason Buckwalter, the JHU Choral Society, and the BSA chorus

  • Bedřich Smetana: Overture and “Dance of the Comedians” from The Bartered Bride featuring Shodekeh, beatboxer/vocal percussionist
  • Igor Stravinsky: The Rite of Spring

The 26th Annual Family Concert, free, features selections from Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring and Smetana’s The Bartered Bride, with beatboxer/vocal percussionist Shodekeh.

Jed Gaylin conducts this free concert. After the concert, the audience is invited onstage to meet the musicians and see their instruments up close.
