New Procedures and Technology Initiatives

• AIM: Accessible Information Management’s Online Services Management Suite was developed by individuals who work, and currently serve, in the capacity of helping educational institutions accommodate students with disabilities.AIM LLC has assisted thousands of students by providing Disability Services offices with a comprehensive suite of web-based tools enabling personnel to create, unify, and manage their disability services accommodations. The entire accommodation form is dynamically generated and tailored to each student’s eligibility profile. The system also allows students, a physician’s office or another school to upload documentation electronically. As of the Spring 2015 semester, JHU Disability Services will be using this software for all student accommodations.
• Kurzweil: PDF Document: Kurzweil 3000 software program offers integrated features that promote and aid students in Reading, Studying, and Writing. Based on Universal Design for Learning principles, it provides users with multiple ways to access information and curriculum, and with tools to help them accomplish tasks independently, practice active learning skills, and demonstrate acquired knowledge.
• SensusAccess: SensusAccess is a self-service solution that automates the conversion of documents into a range of alternative formats including Braille, mp3, Daisy and e-books for the visually and reading impaired. The service can also be used to convert otherwise inaccessible documents such as image-only pdf files, scanned images, lecture notes or other educational material into more accessible formats. This no-cost web service is always available to JHU faculty, staff and students. Brief promo of SensusAccess is available at youtube.
• Study Guide: Students today have a wealth of tools at their fingertips to make earning a degree a little easier. There are a number of apps available to stay organized, study more efficiently and never forget another assignment. By using apps to streamline the details student have more time to focus on what really matters: absorbing the material and laying a foundation for their careers.
