The Office of Multicultural Affairs continues with LatinX Heritage Celebration. We will have Mr. Felipe Luciano, A two-time Emmy Award-winner for his reporting, Felipe Luciano was America’s first Puerto Rican television anchor on JHU Homewood campus. As a poet, writer, activist and lecturer, Mr. Felipe Luciano is one of the most dynamic Latino public figures in the United States of the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. His eloquence, vision, and passion for issues of social justice are extraordinary and reflect the courage of a generation that chose to organize, teach and struggle against the powerful institutions of discrimination. He is the founder and chairman of the Young Lords Party, a member of The Original Last Poets, an advocate for inter-ethnic communication, and the host of “Street Talk”. A talented diversity speaker, Luciano, who is of Afro-Puerto Rican heritage, is committed to community empowerment, ethnic pride, and civil rights. This commitment was pivotal to changing the color and complexion of politics, culture, and society in New York City. He is a regular contributor to many New York area newspapers and magazines, including The New York Times and Essence, while continuing to write and perform his spoken word poetry. Luciano believes that he is currently living his “age of reason,” wherein he is undergoing a personal reconstruction of the self and of his world view. His experience and sharp intellect keep him on the cutting edge of new thought and new movements. Mr. Felipe Luciano will be our Keynote Speaker for Heritage 365 LatinX Heritage Celebration. The evening will conclude with a Q&A lead by a student and a meet and greet for networking. Refreshments will be served by a LatinX caterer.
