The RACE Matters Series will focus on four concepts: resistance, advocacy, community, and education. The series will engage the Hopkins community in dialogue as we reflect on racial injustice, police brutality, and social movements impacting marginalized communities of color. The conversation will challenge the Hopkins community as individuals and as a collective to be intentional advocates and fully embrace the importance of an anti-racism stance. The series will provide a unique experience that will focus on academic research, current events, educational tools, storytelling, personal assessment, and on-going dialogues in dismantling racism in its many forms and levels. Overall, the Hopkins community will be provided information that can transform theory into practice.

The program will convene virtually. For the second program of the series, we will feature Professor, author and cultural critic Marc Lamont Hill who offers a critical analysis of the current social and political moment. By identifying key issues, challenges, controversies, and trends that have emerged or lingered during this challenging time, Hill spotlights the work that must be done to sustain the progress of the freedom struggle.

Moving beyond mere critique, he also provides concrete solutions as well as sites of hope and possibility for healing national, local, and university communities. He will focus on the pandemic, policing, and protest and its implications within the Black and Latinx Communities.

R.A.C.E Matters is presented by the Black & Latinx Student Experience Workgroup and sponsored by the Office of Student Life and Center for Diversity Inclusion.
