Information Session: Summer Engineering Research Abroad (10:00-11:00 a.m. EST) — Dr. Manuel Colas-Gil will lead the following webinar to discuss all of the summer engineering opportunities abroad, with assistance from program alums and Senior Engineering Academic Advisor Denise Shipley, who will discuss the Vredenberg Travel Fund. Students are advised to attend the session before scheduling an advising appointment.

East Asian Studies Speaker Series: Social Engagement of Documentary Photography in China: Navigating in Troubled Waters with Gaochao He (12:00-1:30 p.m. EST) — The evolution -and survival- of documentary photography in China has been contingent and vulnerable, even as it has offered powerful and urgent commentary on contemporary issues. Photographers face high risks as they navigate politically treacherous waters. How have the lines between social and political issues been affected by the rise of the market economy and the fluctuation of regime politics? What kind of strategic interactions can be found among photographers, societal actors, market actors, and bureaucrats? This talk will explore these dynamics by examining the works and personal stories of some of the most influential documentary photographers active in China today.

Shakti Open Workshop (11:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. EST) — Learn the basics of Bharatanatyam through this workshop hosted by Shakti, an Indian Classical Dance Team. We hope to introduce you to the ancient dance form of Bharatanatyam including its introductory steps (adavus) and hand gestures (hasta). We will combine everything learned into a small dance piece. No previous experience is required and people of all abilities are welcome.

JHU Ballet Open Workshop (10:00-11:00 a.m. EST) — Join JHU Ballet to learn a piece of the Mazurka dance, a Polish folk dance. No previous experience id required. Wear comfortable clothes and be sure you have about 5×5 feet worth of space to move.
