Leadership Award Descriptions

The Exemplary Leadership Award

Recognizes an undergraduate or graduate student who has created an impact and/or transformed the JHU community through their leadership and vision. By making a commitment to creating an inclusive climate for those from marginalized backgrounds, this awardee has exemplified courage, perseverance, and solidarity.

The Chester Wickwire Diversity Award

Recognizes an undergraduate or graduate student who promotes multicultural understanding, cultural diversity, and harmony at JHU and/or its surrounding Baltimore communities through intentional community building.

The Owens-Hall-Bilgrave Award

This award is named for three former African-American administrators who were strong advocates for the full participation of students of color in campus leadership. Therefore, the recipient is committed to cultural diversity and education as demonstrated by ongoing mentorship and support of students of color.

JHU OMA Student Organization of the Year

This award is given to a student organization that has exemplified true leadership around the work of diversity, equity, and inclusion. They are providing support through creating a sense of community and belonging for their members, while embodying the spirit of education, advocacy, and solidarity to the larger JHU community.

Friend of OMA Award

This award is given to a staff or faculty member that has been influential in supporting the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion. The nominee would be a member of the JHU community that continuously advocates for students, supports advocacy/allyship, and goes above and beyond in their support for the JHU community.
