Luis Sierra Moncion
Deputy Director
Luis L. Sierra Moncion (he/him/él) is an educator and Student Affairs professional with over a decade of experience in leadership development, civic learning and democratic engagement (CLDE), community building, and advocacy, both in the higher education and nonprofit sectors.
Luis is driven by empowering others to be in their element, and a genuine belief in the great things that happen when people harness their passions, knowledge and lived experiences as a catalyst to better their communities, their country, and the world. Throughout his career, he has collaborated closely with students, colleagues, and community partners to create opportunities for others to educate themselves about issues they care about and turn their ideas into meaningful action. His past experiences prior to joining JHU include civic engagement and coalition-building work in the Greater Baltimore region, as well as leadership development, event planning, and community engagement efforts in service of colleges and universities across the country.
Luis is a first-generation college graduate from Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic, receiving his bachelor’s degree in Sociology (minors in Latin American Studies and Computer Information Systems) from the University of Miami, and his master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from Florida International University.
