As an Academic Advisor/Success Coach in the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, Salifu Cham strives to provide a welcoming, engaging, and inclusive environment where students are both challenged and supported to foster the development of critical thinking skills, problem-solving competencies, and a sense of full responsibility.

Salifu is an experienced Academic Advisor with proven skills in working with students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds. With 8 years of academic advising and career coaching experience, Salifu uses a strengths-based advising model to help students discover their greatest talents and how to use them to achieve their personal, academic, and professional goals. As a first-generation college student, Salifu developed a deep understanding of the unique challenges that students from underrepresented groups face and is a strong advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion.

In his previous role as an Academic Advisor at Morgan State University, Salifu worked with CASA Academy, a program coordinated by the Center for Academic Success and Achievement (CASA) designed to ease the transition from high school to college for students whose academic profile and performance suggest the need for early intervention to improve their potential for success in college. There, he was recognized for his commitment and contributions to his students’ success as a recipient of the Power Live Faculty/Staff Award, an award voted by students.

Salifu was born in The Gambia, the smallest country in mainland Africa, and grew up right outside of Washington DC in Silver Spring Maryland. He holds an undergraduate degree in Business Administration and an MBA for Morgan State University.
