“All students have the ability to grow through the unique challenges college presents with the right amount of guidance. Imposter syndrome, insecurities, and overall feelings of inadequacy can cause students to believe they cannot handle these challenges. As an Academic Advisor/Success Coach, I follow the philosophy of “challenge and support.” It is my responsibility to meet students where they are and encourage them to go further. I believe in setting goals and holding students accountable in achieving those goals. I am committed to equity and social justice and consider the effects of historical oppression on people and society. Furthermore, I operate through a multicultural lens, considering the different factors that impact a student’s experience such as race, ethnicity, gender identity, income status, disability status, and sexual orientation. I create a safe and brave space so students can be their authentic selves, while challenging their beliefs and behaviors that hold them back from success.
