Jochebed (pronounced “Joke-uh-bed”) is a dedicated advocate in the realm of higher education, with over eight years of experience centered around tutoring, teaching, and empowering first-generation college students. Jochebed earned her BA in Sociology from the University of Maryland, College Park, and went on to earn a Ph.D. from the Sociology department at Johns Hopkins University, where her research focused on the nuanced experiences of first-generation students and the support networks that foster their success. Her academic journey extended far beyond research alone. For two and a half years, she served as a graduate assistant for the SCAA, working on projects that assessed the experiences of students and success coaches alike. Her work played a role in ensuring that all participants had the tools they needed to thrive. She also worked as a Teaching Assistant for the Sociology Department at Johns Hopkins University and at the University of Maryland, College Park, where she mentored students, facilitated discussions, and provided academic support to help them grasp sociological concepts. In her personal time, Jochebed finds joy in exploring the diverse culinary scene of the DMV area and spending time with her family and friends.
