Courtney Young, Whitaker Fellowship, 2012–2013

Courtney Young

“During my Whitaker Fellowship, I pursued a Master of Research in Biomedicine degree at University College London. There I worked with some of the top researchers in the Duchenne muscular dystrophy field to explore aspects of exon skipping therapies for Duchenne and ways to enhance stem cell therapies for muscle regeneration. I was very grateful that this experience gave me the opportunity to live abroad and make international connections within the muscle field. Living in London exposed me to a wide range of different cultures, brought to life British history, and showed me the benefits of effective public transportation. I left with a new perspective and a strong skill set in more avenues of muscle research, ready to start a PhD program.”
