Introducing Nourish the Nest: Hopkins Dining’s New Performance Icon
Nourish the Nest is a Hopkins Dining and campus wide initiative intended to help you nourish yourself with a variety of foods while having a unique and creative dining experience.
The Nourish icon will be used within our eateries to help you easily identify the nutrient density of foods and build a balanced plate to promote overall physical and mental well-being. Foods are considered more nutrient-dense if they contain vegetables, fruits, whole grains, fiber, healthy fats, or a healthy protein source. These foods will be associated with a fuller nest (Tier 3 and Tier 4) and tagged with the corresponding Nourish icon. Foods with nests that are less full (Tier 1 and Tier 2) may contain more saturated fats, sodium, or added sugars. Although these foods may be less nutrient dense, they can still be part of a balanced plate. We encourage you to consume a variety of nutrient-dense foods, while also enjoying foods that provide comfort, happiness, and additional satiation.
The next time you dine at our dining hall and retail locations, try using the Nourish icons to guide you towards a balanced plate! The exact criteria used to distinguish food items can be found below. If you have any questions about how to nourish yourself, feel free to contact the Hopkins Dining Dietitian at [email protected].
