Hamilton Goss

Director of Culinary Innovation

Hamilton has been a member of the Hopkins Dining team since January 2023, and leads a team dedicated to supporting the Hopkins Dining team as a whole in growing our program and shaping the future of our program. He started cooking in professional kitchens full-time at the age of fifteen and has been privileged enough to continue in this amazing industry of nourishing lives ever since. He graduated from the Art Institute of Atlanta for culinary arts and achieved his ProChef II certification from The Culinary Institute of America. Before finding his home here at Johns Hopkins, Hamilton has been fortunate to work under three Certified Master Chefs, was taught in school by a great mentor that has now achieved the title of Master Chef and has the distinction of being the first African American to earn that title. He has worked in private clubs, restaurants, hotels, consulted food manufacturers across the world, and has led multiple large universities.

Hamilton’s favorite part about Hopkins Dining and the transition to being self-operated is the immense impact it makes on the Hopkins community. We now have the opportunity to support local businesses, farmers, and suppliers. Our commitment to this community, building and developing our great team, and nourishing the lives of the Hopkins community are his favorite things about the program. Hamiliton states that we have a “dynamic and community driven program that relies on many ideas, experiences, and voices to continue to develop our program. We encourage our community to engage with our team to continue the innovation and growth to which our team is committed.” As the Director of Culinary Innovation, he gets to work on our various menus across campus, some of his favorite styles of food is the regional type of cuisines found across the world that align the cultural history of the region, the raw ingredients indigenous to the land, and the ceremony behind the food that brings it all together.

Outside of his role with Hopkins Dining, Hamilton enjoys spending his free time with his family, hiking, working in their garden, traveling, and finding great food to enjoy all together!
