Assistant Director of K-12 Initiatives

Amy Wilson joined the Center for Social Concern as Assistant Director of K-12 Initiatives in August 2023. Amy began her career as an elementary school teacher in the Baltimore City Public School System with Teach For America. She moved into teacher education and coaching work in a variety of roles, including 14 years of work in the JHU School of Education with the JHU/TFA Masters partnership. She taught graduate-level education courses in processes and acquisition of reading; curriculum, instruction and assessment; classroom management; action research; elementary math/SS/science teaching methods; and school reform. Most recently, she had been supporting AmeriCorps tutors in The Literacy Lab program, which provides one-on-one daily literacy tutoring to Kindergarten through 3rd grade Baltimore City students. While she is not originally from Baltimore, she’s been lived in the city for over 30 years and considers it home. She is raising her family in Baltimore City and her 3 daughters attend Baltimore City public schools. Amy is grounded in her commitment to supporting adults in their work to ensure that all children receive a challenging, culturally-relevant, and inspiring education.

 

Amy earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, with a concentration in Educational Studies at Carleton College, in Northfield, Minnesota and a Master of Education degree with an Urban Education concentration at Goucher College in Towson, Maryland
