Pride 2021

Five people at a pride celebration stand close together and smile. Text to the right says "Pride is for you." over a watercolor rainbow background.

Although we will not be able to gather in person this year to celebrate Pride Month, LGBTQ Life encourages you to celebrate pride in the way that makes the most sense to you. Remember that pride is for you, whoever you are, and however you celebrate!

We invite you to follow us on Instagram this month as we spotlight the importance of making pride your own. Here are a few things that are making us proud!

Join the community for a moderated book talk and dynamic discussion with Judith Kasen-Windsor, surviving spouse of marriage equality pioneer Edie Windsor, and Joshua Lyon, co-author of Edie’s memoir, “A Wild and Precious Life.” Published in 2019, the memoir tells the story of Edie Windsor’s journey, her life in New York City in the 50s and 60s, and her work as an activist. Edie Windsor and her lawyer Roberta Kaplan received Honorary Degrees from Johns Hopkins in 2014.

Baltimore Pride

Baltimore Pride and the Pride Center of Maryland are continuing the tradition with a collection of virtual and in person events. From June 13 – 20 join the Baltimore community for a fashion show, movie showcase, and a legal workshop. Plus, join in for a virtual pride parade broadcast on June 19!

OUTlist and Ally Directory Members

We are proud of everyone who stands in support of JHU’s LGBTQA community!

Our particular gratitude to members of the OUTlist, who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, asexual or otherwise connected to our community. Members of the OUTlist share their names on our website, and are willing to serve as mentors and part of an informal network for the LGBTQ community.

We also want to celebrate members of the Ally Directory. They are campus community members who have chosen to attend Safe Zone trainings and identify themselves as supporters of the LGBTQA community. You are invited to contact them as resources and supporters.

Our Queer History

We are proud to celebrate key milestones in our LGBTQ history at JHU. Visit our page to learn more.
