The DMC Salon Series Presents Jermaine Bell Social Designer Talk

Thursday, November 19, 2015, 5-7pm

The Johns Hopkins University Digital Media Center and Center for Social Concern present a talk by Baltimore graphic designer and social organizer Jermaine Bell. Bell will talk about developing projects that create social impact, bring together designers and communities to discuss the complex problems that affect our city, and how design thinking can lead to solutions for local issues. Bell will deliver a 45 minute presentation and then take questions. Food and refreshments will be provided.

Jermaine Bell is a visual designer who holds a B.F.A. in Graphic Design from the Maryland Institute College of Art. Bell has collaborated with the Baltimore Museum of Art and developed the branding and marketing for the fine artist Stephen Towns’ solo exhibition co | patriot at Gallery CA. Through his work at Havas Worldwide, Bell gained footing in advertising with clients like Michelob Ultra, Liberty Mutual Insurance, and Constellation Energy. In addition, the social designer is also a contributor to BmoreArt, where he focuses on writing about artists of color, events and stories that typically do not receive coverage. Bell recently completed a fellowship with the Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance (GBCA) for their pilot fellowship initiative the Urban Arts Leadership Program (UALP), and is now a Baltimore Corps Fellow where he is the Marketing and Program Coordinator for Impact Hub Baltimore. Bell is also the incumbent Program Chair for AIGA Baltimore where he is working to bridge the gap between the community and the design world with his initiative REdesign & REbuild.

The ‘Jermaine Bell Social Designer Talk” is presented by the Johns Hopkins University Digital Media Center (DMC) and Center for Social Concern as part of the Fall 2015 DMC Salon Series in which rising Baltimore cultural stars give multimedia talks on their critically engaged work. The DMC is a multimedia lab and resource center for students exploring creative uses of emerging media and technology to communicate their ideas.The Center for Social Concern is the JHU student life office dedicated to community service and civic engagement and emphasizes the value of service with others, rather than the commonly accepted concept of service to others.
