The JHUnions is a program within the Office of Student Leadership and Involvement to tie together the three main socially-centric locations on campus: Levering Hall, the Mattin Center, and the LaB. JHUnions seeks to enhance the social atmosphere of JHU students through regular programming and events within the student union spaces. These spaces include areas in Levering Hall, the Mattin Center, and the LaB. The JHUnions programming board works independently and in collaboration with student organizations to develop a wide variety of programs and events every week. Stay up to date with all of the events on our Facebook page!
JHUnions operate within three social spaces on campus. Each space offers unique features to accommodate any programming need.
The LaB is a newly opened restaurant and student union space located in the Homewood Apartments Building. The location, open from 7pm-2am, is unlike any other currently offered on Homewood Campus. It features a unique dining menu including milkshakes, monkey bread, build your own nachos, kombucha on tap, and much more! Students can relax in front of the water wall while taking in the all of the featured artwork and items with a scientific motif. The LaB features 5 TV’s with a Comcast connection to offer multiple viewing options. In addition, the large projector and screen in front of the water wall creates an ideal environment for watch parties and presentations. The back room includes a fully equipped media conference table connected to a large 90in TV. Students can enjoy a variety of fun and interactive board games with their friends along with PS4, XBOX, and Wii U gaming options. JHUnions offers a variety of programs in this space to include Salsa Dance Nights, movies, open mic nights, and live performances.

The Mattin Center is the heart of arts on campus and features a dance studio, a blackbox theatre, numerous practice rooms for student use. The Mattin Center is also home to the Digital Media Center, the Dean of Student Life, and the Office of Student Leadership and Involvement. Students may also enjoy the unique atmosphere of the Bamboo Café for their events. JHUnions hosts its weekly Paint Night event every Saturday during the semester in the Mattin Center.
Levering Hall holds a dining hall, a cafe, a large student lounge, various offices, and plenty of programming space for events large and small.
- Levering Lounge: Our most common area in Levering for JHUnions events. It is a great space for a casual social event or can serve as a reception area in conjunction with the Great Hall. The lounge is also equipped with PS4’s and a variety of video games for student use. See our Levering Student Monitors for more information about using the great amenities in the lounge.
- Great Hall: Connected to the Levering Lounge, the Great Hall is a large open room that can seat up to 150 people. It is a perfect space for a large, yet intimate gathering.
- Glass Pavilion: This bright space is perfect for a large event as it can fit up to 300 people for a lecture or 250 for a banquet. The open quality of the space allows for natural lighting and connection to the beautiful outdoors.
- Sherwood Room: While being the smallest space in Levering, the Sherwood Room is in popular demand. It’s quirky ambiance and stellar acoustics makes it a high priority for many groups to gather for game nights, poker tournaments, or a cappella rehearsal.
