Below you will find important information regarding moving into University housing. This page may be updated periodically so be sure to check back for any updates!

Fall Move-In Dates

Please note that the below move-in dates are for students residing in on-campus housing, and are not for students who reside in off-campus apartments.

Move-In Appointments

Move-In appointments will open on Thursday, August 1st.

To make an appointment, please log into The Birdhouse to sign up for a move-in appointment. The deadline to make your appointment is Monday, August 12th at 3:00PM (EST). Follow the directions below to select a time.

To book a move-in appointment:

  1. Log-in to The Birdhouse.
  2. Select “Move-in Appointment” on the blue navigation bar.
  3. Review the welcome page thoroughly.
  4. Click on the population that you are a part of at the bottom of the page (i.e. New First-Year Students, New Transfer Students, Continuing Students)
  5. You will now be directed to an informational page about Move-In for your specific move-in day.
  6. Click “Move-In Appointment” at the bottom of the page.
  7. Select the residence hall / building you are assigned to see available move-in appointments.
  8. Select a move-in appointment. You will receive a confirmation email to your JHU email with your appointment information.
  9. You will be able to cancel and reschedule your move-in appointment until Monday, August 12th at 3:00PM (EST).

If you are an approved early arrival student athlete, you must select a move-in appointment for your approved early arrival date no later than 9:00AM (EST) on Wednesday, August 7th.

If you are moving in early for Pre-Orientation, you will not have to select a move-in appointment.

Mail Services

Mail Services is currently operating on its summer hours through August 26th. For details, visit their website.

The AMR II and Wolman mail rooms service the first-year residents. Students residing in AMR I, AMR II, and AMR III A and B will have all lettered US & campus mail and packages delivered to the AMR II mail room. Students residing in Wolman and McCoy will have all lettered US & campus mail and packages delivered to the Wolman mail room. Please refer to these helpful tips when sending mail to your campus address:

Your mailing address is located on the “My Housing” page. If your mail/packages are not addressed correctly, your mail may not be delivered or may be delayed in arrival.

The AMR II and Wolman mail rooms can accept mail and packages beginning Monday, August 12th. Returning students moving in on August 24th can begin having packages received on Monday, August 19th. Due to space limitations, all items sent prior to this date will be returned to sender.

For approved early arriving athletes/special groups, the AMR II and Wolman mail rooms can accept mail and packages beginning Monday, August 5th.

Sabbath Observance

If you are a Sabbath Observer and will require a Sabbath Key to access your residence hall for the 2024-2025 academic year, please visit Wolman Hall 143 after you arrive to campus.

Fridge & Safe Rentals

Visit MyFridgeRental.com now to reserve your MicroFridge to have your convenient fridge, freezer, and microwave all-in-one combination appliance waiting for you when you arrive! You must reserve your rental by Monday, August 5 to have the rentals installed prior to your arrival. Any rentals reserved after this date will have a delivery date and timeframe coordinated directly with the resident following the conclusion of residential move-ins

If you rented a microfridge or safe through MyFridgeRental.com, every effort will be made to have your unit(s) in place by your arrival. However, depending on when your order was placed, it might not be delivered in time. All questions should be submitted to MyFridgeRental.com regarding the arrival of unit(s).

Incoming First-Year Students – Sunday, August 18 | Mason Hall

Please pay close attention to your key pickup location based on the time of your arrival.

Parking

When you arrive on campus, please park at the South Garage (3101 Wyman Park Drive, Baltimore, MD 21218) and from there, head to Mason Hall to get your room key and J-Card.

Parking around the campus is very limited. Vehicles should not be left unattended while unloading. Please make sure to pay attention to all University and City of Baltimore signage.There will be no parking during the street closure times. If you are bringing your vehicle, please pay close attention to the street closures organized for regular move-in days because your vehicle may be towed.

After you have finished unloading, kindly find a permanent parking spot in the community so that other students may unload their belongings. Due to construction in the Charles Village neighborhood, please be diligent in complying with all parking signs on or around campus to avoid ticketing and towing.

Parking will be available at South Garage and San Martin Garage. When you pick-up your key, additional information will be provided about available parking on that day.

Key & J-Card Pick Up

Key Pick Up During 8:00AM – 6:00PM

Residents must pick up their J-Card and keys from Mason Hall on Sunday, August 18th from 8:00am – 6:00pm EST.Please have a form of government issued identification ready to present in order to receive your J-Card and keys.

Key Pick Up After 6:00PM

Residents who arrive after 6:00pm must pick up their keys from the Wolman Hall Security desk. Please have a form of government issued identification ready to present to Wolman Hall Security in order to receive your J-Card and keys.

After verifying your ID, you will be given your residence hall keys. New students will also receive their J-Card at this time. You will need to bring a government issued ID to move-in to retrieve your keys and J-Card.

J-Card Services and Card Access

Your J-Card functions as your access card for your residence hall. Upon move-in, first year students will receive their J-Card with their keys, and it will already be programmed to access their building.

Your J-Card will get you into residence halls, the library, academic buildings, other campus facilities and provides access to your meal plan. You can store money on your J-Card and use it to buy food and other items on- and off-campus. J-Cards are also accepted by more than a dozen businesses in Charles Village. Should you ever have any issues with your J-Card, you may contact the J-Card Office in Levering Hall.

Moving Bins

Moving bins will be available to assist with move-in. Please keep in mind, a limited number of moving bins are available. Bins may be checked out a maximum of 30 minutes at a time. For students moving into the AMRs, there are no elevators in any of the AMR buildings, so large moving bins are not available.

Moving assistance will be provided on August 18th & August 24th across all buildings.

If you are picking up your keys after 6 PM, there will be a limited number of bins available at the McCoy Hall, Homewood Apartments, and Scott-Bates Commons lobbies to sign out for 30 minutes at the Residence Hall Security Desk.

At the Residence Hall

After you have received your keys, you will be directed to your residence hall. Upon arrival at your residence hall, you will be greeted by a staff member and directed where to park. Once you are parked, staff will be there to assist with unloading your vehicle and bringing your items to your room. The driver must remain with the vehicle while at the residence hall so that your car can be moved as soon as it is unloaded.

New Transfer Students – Wednesday, August 21 | Wolman Hall

Parking

When you arrive on campus, please park on 34th Street (3339 N Charles St, Baltimore, MD 21218) to pick up your keys and J-Card at Wolman Hall.

Parking around the campus is very limited. Vehicles should not be left unattended while unloading. Please make sure to pay attention to all University and City of Baltimore signage.There will be no parking during the street closure times. If you are bringing your vehicle, please pay close attention to the street closures organized for regular move-in days because your vehicle may be towed.

After you have finished unloading, kindly find a permanent parking spot in the community so that other students may unload their belongings. Residents who arrive after 12:00pm must pick up their keys from the Wolman Hall Security desk.

J-Card Services and Card Access

Your J-Card functions as your access card for your residence hall. If you have lost your J-Card, contact the J-Card office ([email protected]) to request a replacement.

Your J-Card will get you into residence halls, the library, academic buildings, other campus facilities and provides access to your meal plan. You can store money on your J-Card and use it to buy food and other items on- and off-campus. J-Cards are also accepted by more than a dozen businesses in Charles Village. Should you ever have any issues with your J-Card, you may contact the J-Card Office in Levering Hall.
